Dr. Holderer holds a DMA in Voice Performance and Opera from the University of Texas at Austin. His current areas of research interest are Japanese Western Classical Music and 19th century vocal performance styles. Michael has performed as a soloist, in concert and on the operatic stage in various parts of the world, including the United States, Canada, and Asia. Michael has performed leading roles in twenty opera productions including Pistol in the premiere of a new version of Gordon Getty’s Plump Jack at the Butler Opera Center (Austin, TX), Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Summer Opera Lyric Theatre in Toronto, Figaro in the Marriage of Figaro with the Campus Opera Society in Austin, Texas. In addition, Dr. Holderer has also made appearances as Bass soloist with the Albuquerque Philharmonic, University of New Mexico Symphony & Chorus, UT Austin / Huston-Tillotson Black History Concert; as an Oktavist with Seraphic Fire in Miami and as a member of the Santa Fe Opera Company, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and Notre Dame Glee Club.

Dr. Holderer is a member of NATS and has given numerous regional masterclasses at both the high school and university levels.  In addition to performing, Michael’s outside interests include playing the piano and guitar, ballroom dancing, participating in local cultural events, traveling, and foreign languages.
